If you’re the type of person who checks the holiday calendar before the year officially starts, then 2026 is about to become your favorite year. Thanks to the way several UAE public holidays fall neatly alongside weekends, you could potentially enjoy up to 39 days off using just 11 days of annual leave.
From a massive six-day stretch in May to strategic end-of-year breaks, the 2026 public holiday schedule is a traveler's dream. Here is your guide to the long weekends ahead and how to hack your leave for maximum relaxation.
The Big Four - Your 2026 Long Weekends
Under the UAE’s official public holiday framework, where both public and private sectors offer holidays on the same nationally announced dates, several holidays align perfectly with the Saturday-Sunday break. That means you require zero annual leave to enjoy an extended break.
- Eid Al Fitr (20 March – 22 March): This three-day break marks the end of Ramadan. With pleasant spring temperatures ranging between 25°C and 30°C, it is the ideal window for regional getaways to Oman or beach retreats in Ras Al Khaimah.
- Eid Al Adha (26 May – 31 May): This is the star of the 2026 calendar because Arafat Day leads directly into a three-day Eid, where you can enjoy a massive six-day consecutive break. It is the longest holiday of the year and the perfect time for an international escape to Europe or the UK before the summer heat truly kicks in.
- Islamic New Year (13 June – 15 June): While the predicted date falls on a Tuesday, under the new transferability rules, the holiday is likely to be shifted to Monday. This creates a three-day weekend perfect for a luxury indoor staycation to take advantage of Dubai's summer hotel deals.
- Prophet's Birthday (22 August – 24 August): Following the same logic as the New Year, this holiday is expected to be moved to a Monday. As this falls during the peak of the UAE summer, it serves as an ultimate opportunity to lan a three day trip, and you can make the most of it if you start your holiday from the evening of 21 August instead.
The December Hack
Take 4 December, 2026 - a Friday - off as part of your annual leave, and you’ll be able to enjoy a 6-day break!
While it’s not a long weekend in the traditional sense, the end of the year offers quite the strategic leave opportunity of 2026. Commemoration Day (1 December) falls on a Tuesday, followed immediately by UAE National Day (2 & 3 December) on Wednesday and Thursday.
So take the 4th off, and enjoy a break of 6 consecutive days!
This is peak Dubai season with the most suitable temperatures (22–28°C) making it the best time for desert camping, Hatta adventures, or catching the "Eid Al Etihad" fireworks at the Burj Khalifa.
Ready for your long weekend plan?
Public holiday dates in the UAE, especially Islamic occasions, are subject to official confirmation based on lunar sightings, so final dates may vary slightly.
Separately, certain holidays may come with temporary changes in dining or alcohol service policies at licensed venues, depending on regulations in place at the time. It’s best to check closer to your travel dates for the most accurate updates.
So, are you ready to turn these public holidays into your best year of travel? With the calendar essentially doing the heavy lifting for you, the only thing left to do is secure your dates before the rest of the city catches on.
